Archives & Special Collections

Materials from Archives & Special Collections are being made available for the first time outside of Frost Library, featuring selections from the literature, performing arts, natural history, missionaries and travel, Asian studies, and College history collections.

Art & Architecture Collection

This collection contains fine art, decorative arts and architecture images from around the world that span centuries, with emphases on European and Asian art. These images have been purchased, licensed, and digitized by the College for teaching, research and other academic work.

Browse Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson

The Emily Dickinson collection includes original poems, manuscripts, and letters from Dickinson to family and friends, spanning her life from 1830 to 1886, as well as numerous rough drafts and fragments of her poems. Dickinson often jotted down lines of poetry on any materials close at hand, including slit open envelopes, scraps of wallpaper, and chocolate wrappers.

The Art & Architecture Collection holds over 130,000 images licensed for teaching and other educational purposes.

Archives & Special Collections holds hundreds of digitized objects selected from literary manuscripts and other materials held in the College's Archives.

The Emily Dickinson Collection includes original poems, manuscripts and letters from Dickinson to family and friends, spanning her life from 1830 to 1886.

The Octagon is a collection of open access articles and other scholarly works by Amherst College faculty.
